Available LanguagesLanguage En San Martín Del Río - Mudejar ArtRecognized internationally, the Mudejar is an artistic style realized by the Muslim population who stayed to live in the lands reconquered by the Christians. Aragon is one of the main focuses of this artistic style at the national level, highlighting areas such as the Comarca de Calatayud, the former Community of Villages of Daroca and, of course, the city of Teruel. Within the Darocense focus, the examples of the Jiloca Region are located, being Mudéjar Art one of its patrimonial jewels. The towers of the Churches of San Martín del Río, Olalla, Navarrete and Báguena, were declared a World Heritage Site in 2001 by Unesco, forming the Mudéjar Route that runs through our Region. Other bell towers like those of the churches of Burbáguena and Lechago also possess a clear influence of this style, being its construction something later. Although the Mudejar were dedicated to various trades, they stood out especially in those of the construction, wood, textile and ceramics. The skill of the Mudejar master builders was recognized by both royalty and by the nobility or ecclesiastical authorities who hired these artists and craftsmen to build their residences or temples, thus spreading the style. Mudejar art has been defined by some authors as the only typically Spanish.
