It is a recreational and green oasis in the urban hustle of Antwerp, Mechelen and Brussels. The domain is an old clay quarry and large parts of De Schorre were formerly owned by Verstrepen and Van Herck's brickworks. Now it is a recreation area with beautiful ponds and beautiful nature where you can enjoy walking and cycling. About one third of the domain is clad as a natural zone. Here you will find the pioneer vegetation that has grown spontaneously after quarrying has stopped. A rich shade of birds, insects and animals is found here. Two authentic clay dredgers on the slopes of the ponds still refer to the history of brick making. The domain was purchased from the municipality of Boom on 8 December 1986 by the Province of Antwerp. Since then, work has been carried out in various phases to transform De Schorre into a beautiful green recreation area and an ideal venue for parties, events, meetings and congresses. Verstrepen's old warehouse was transformed into the modern Congress Center ‘De Pitte’. In the same building, the reception and rental desk and the administration were also accommodated. Part of it has been re-used since 2010 as a climbing and adventure tower. With events like the Spartacus Run, Xtreme Xperience, Tomorrowland, Music For Life, a vibrant congress center and tens of home sports clubs, ‘De Schorre’ is now a bursting and dynamic place to be.
