You can remark a glimpse of the large paper mill Dalle & Lecompte, now in the rue Léon Six in Bousbecque. In the 18th century, Bousbecque became the first French producer of flax. The large still-existing paper mill 'Dalle & Lecomte' was founded in 1875 in the North French Bousbècque, across the border of Leie, founded by a family of flax brewers (Antoine and Léon Dalle and Adolphe Dalle-Lecomte), originally with the intention of processing flax waste into paper. Today Bousbecque has two main main papermaking plants, both finding their origins in Dalle-Lecomte. One is thethe Finnish Group Ahlstrom, in Bousbecque ‘Ahlstrom Specialities’. In 2001-2002 they decided to concentrate business on genuine vegetable parchment and to close down the production of one-side coated paper, leading to a reduction of 130 employees, today still employing some 125 people. The other one is Dalle Hygiène, which belonged to the Italian group Kartogroup since 1999, invested € 80,000,000 in the modernization of the plant in 2005, and after serious cash flow problems was taken over in 2008 by the German group WEPA.
