If you look to the right, the inland direction, you can spot at least two former artificial retting and scutching workshops. The one, before reaching, the bridge between Wevelgem and Lauwe is the old workshop op Eugène Baekelandt, It was built in 1938, and stayed in operation until 1992. Eugène was the last flax retter in Wevelgem. The new owner has kept all the buildings and transformed into a house.
